Gladstone House is a £7.5m 60 bed extra care facility for Newark & Sherwood Homes completed in 2018. The layout has been carefully designed as a village concept, providing visual interest both externally and internally. By avoiding straight uniform corridors and providing circulation routes, with varied corridor widths, controlled views, and incidental spaces in the form of ‘village squares’ at changes in direction, the design ensures that at the most basic level, no one circulation area is the same as another. This results in ease of navigation to and from resident’s apartments and aids knowing where they are in the building. This is especially important given some of the residents will be dementia sufferers.
