Brief:
To provide a new building to house a pile manufacturing facility requiring the integration of heavy engineering with state of the art technical precision technology to create a highly automated method of production.
Solution:
Because the technology we were dealing with was new and being developed during the building design process we needed to provide a flexible and creative response to problems as they arose. Before the project started, the site surface water drainage system was working at capacity and therefore we incorporated a massive 75,000 litre rainwater harvesting tank below the slab of the building.
This provides large quantities of water for the concrete production, reducing the need for mains supplied water, with a consequent reduction in production costs. The tank and drainage assembly also provides some attenuation in storm situations.
