Brief:
To design a large, modern sustainable dwelling for a retired couple on a sloping site close to the centre of Nottingham. This was to be large enough to maximise the value of the property, but be able to be occupied at a single level if required at a later date and be wheelchair friendly. The couple also had a collection of 'arts and crafts' furniture that the new building would be required to show off to best advantage.
Solution:
To ease the movement around the dwelling, it was set on three half levels and the spaces and layout were designed to ensure that if required, at a later date, single level living would be able to be accommodated. The location of the building on the site took advantage of the shelter created by trees and shrubs to the north and west and created several garden areas with different characters.
