Brief:
To provide a contemporary, sustainable dwelling on a small site within the village conservation area and surrounded by existing dwellings on all sides. To maximise the accommodation provided on the site, without compromising the privacy of the new or the adjoining dwellings.

Solution:
By providing a two storey dwelling on a site with a reduced ground level, and with low eaves, it was possible to keep the impact of the building to a minimum, whilst the careful positioning of windows avoided even any minor chance of overlooking.

The mixture of high thermal mass at ground floor and highly insulated timber frame at first floor along with a two storey sun room with a solid, insulated and ventilated roof, allowed significant passive solar gains throughout the year without risk of overheating in summer.
