Queen's Sconce, Newark

Sconce and Devon Park includes former civil war earthworks that were employed in the defense of Newark Town. The scheme involved the restoration of the earthworks and the construction of a pedestrian bridge to facilitate access by the public onto the earthworks from the surrounding park land. Footways around the park were constructed and formatted to allow easy access by the less able and pushchairs. The project also included the construction of a park management building, public cafe and children’s adventure play area. The building construction incorporates many sustainable and environmentally friendly features such as underfloor heating linked to ground source heat pumps and rainwater harvesting to service the public toilets.
