Babworth Court Yoga Centre

The project involved the restoration and conversion of an existing, derelict Grade II listed Victorian squash court located within the grounds of Babworth Hall. The works included upgrading the performance of all elements of structure and the insertion of a first floor to provide a Yoga Centre and conferencing facilities.

The Jasmine Trust had a clear vision of what they wanted to achieve, but because of difficulties in funding the project was many years in gestation and went through a number of design development and value engineering exercises before the design was finalised. The building works were carried out by the conservation section of Robert Woodhead Construction Ltd and finally completed in February 2012.

Working on a listed building provided two major challenges. The first was to restore the fabric of the existing building and to prevent its continuing decline. The second was to upgrade the performance of all existing elements of structure and to insert new ones to provide spaces for the new yoga centre and conferencing facilities in a reversible manner. All within an extremely tight budget.
